Vista network integration into a excisting XP network

Hello,
is it possible to join with Vista into an excisting local XP Network?? If yes, how do i have to do this??

Try it, Mallow. Since this is a beta, if you mess up, you can reinstall. :-}
I'm
sitting in the same place you are, almost, since I'm considering networking my beta machine, my XP machine and my laptop. This would be especially good for me, since I could then print on a duplexed printer, or a plain one.

You can join an XP network just fine. The problem will be that Windows Vista turns of the browing for that computer. So you won't see it when you browse the network. Use your IP address instead to get to the machine.

The networking wizard is currently working in build 5270, but to ensure it joins your network, here is what I do:
Click Start > Control Panel > System > Computer > Name > To rename this computer or join a domain, click Change > under "Member of" select "Workgroup" type in your workgroup name and click OK. Restart your system for the changes to be applied and saved. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "mallow" wrote in message

Ok, I have done these steps. I am in the right workgroup of the network. my neighbour controlled it on his machine and he allready see my vista machine.
Now my prob is that josh wrote in his answer of my question. I can`t see any share or other machines on the workgroup. Any solution on this? i`m trying to connect with IP, but it doesn`t work for me. Maybe i do something wrong to connect on other way to my mates machine. any idea out there?? "Andre Da Costa" wrote in message

I notice this on my Network, it takes some time for the Share resources on the network to show up in Network. You could try accessing it from Start > Network or display the Network icon on the desktop and try browsing it from there.
I did by clicking Start > Run > //adacosta8300/Public -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

Ok, i don`t know why, might be a secret of Vista;), but my network is now working;). But i see the machines and the shares ONLY in Windows explorer. It seems to me that the network explorer and even som features of the network center(f. e. Network Map) only works with wireless networks. Any informations about this? Will this be changed? And sorry for my bad english;) "mallow" wrote in message

Its shows up in mine when I access it from the Start menu > Network, there is a bug there, sometimes it shows up, some times it does not. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

Also, make sure you enable file and print sharing from Windows Firewall. It is disabled by default.

That's good to hear. I share my Vista partition and I can load to it from my XP PC but not the other way around. Accessing my router from Vista displays all PC's including Vista. There got to be a problem with Vista. Tried using Windows Mail to access this group. Could read all but got an error on sent. Logon not accepted. I installed Mozilla Thunderbird and I can read and sent. No problem with logons. Same setup.
I am using build 5308
